DEJ #12

Quote: They need to understand a new language of expression. The way we are educating is based on nineteenth-century ideas and methods. Here we are, entering the twenty-first century, and you look at our schools and ask, 'Why are we doing things in this ancient way?' Our system of education is locked in a time capsule. You want to say to the people in charge, 'You're not using today's tools! Wake up!'

Reaction: Who couldn't agree with this statement while the world and all the technology in it is rapidly changing and getting more and more incredible and giving us unbelieveable abilities to access information that our parents and grandparents had limited if any access to it at all and you look at our school system and the majority of the teaching methods are exactly the same as when they were in school. How can we expect our generation and future generations to excel and gain the greatest amount of knowledge when we are restricting them with old crippling teaching styles and out of date text books. This course has really made me open my eyes to understand that technology is necessary in today's classroom so we as teachers and future teachers need to step it up!

DJE #11

The arguement made in this article is that there is a wide variety of sex offenders and not all of them are a danger to children in fact most of those that pose athreat to children have not been caught or convicted and are not registered yet. Banning registered sex offenders can keep them from ahcieve social normality and even orevent them from sites that may helop them get a job. Not to mention that there are people that are registered as sex offenders that are completely harmless to our children and our society  and have no reason to be banned from social networking sites.I personally see no reason as to prevent registered sex offenders from being a part of a social network as there are so many incredibly stirct and unbelievalbe rules and some of them are just normal people who have made mistakes the real people who are a threat to the children arent sitting at home looking for them on facebook and even if so raely do they reach out and suceed luring them in through the interent, these people that are more of a dnager are probably out searching for them in public. There fore I see no reason for registered sex offenders to be banned from social networking sites.

Wikipedia: Friend Not Foe

1) Did the class activity about wikipedia and this article change your opinion about the value of wikipedia to society in general and education specifically?

    - Yes I was always tau never to rely on wikipedia because anyone can post on that website, no one ever told me how thoroughly it was checked and updated or that there were any warning signs of a false or outdated article. I think that wikipedia is a great part of our society and is used in my life as a college student at least once during the week. I also think it is a great tool in education because it can be if nothing else a great starting point for a research paper or even a way to teach students how to investigate their sources before they use them.

2) Describe how you might direct students to use wikipedia in your future classroom.

    - I would say I would have my students use it to help them learn about a specific topic and probably have them use additional sources related to the article and also maybe ask them to pick out any faults they found in the wikipedia article based on their previous knowledge and research on other credible sites and sources.
