Double Jounal #6

QUOTE: “If you pulled it off the
Web, that means it was an early version
written very quickly for immediate
use on the Web. I would bet I wrote
that version in a very few minutes.” An
opportunity for a reporter to provide
context, background, and depth for
the online reader is lost—an omission
under time constraints. Students will
find that such omissions are common
in news reporting."

Response: I found this quote particularly striking due to the fact that our culture is so lost in the media that many of us would never even consider to doubt our sources especially from credible names such as national news or reliable websites. After reading it though it will most likely stike you as being the truth about all of this, after all isnt the whole media game about breaking stories first and making it more inticing to the reciver of the message in order to get higher ratings or have more people rely on them more than others to read or hear their top news stories? This idea is one that we really need to impress upon students regularly so that as they grow and develop they learn to research the information that they read or hear more carefully in order not to be mislead and enveloped in  poor media.

Obama Inference 2

People
Objects
Activites
President Obama
Books
Thinking of Consequences of small flaws in his plan
Very disturbed and concerned looks, as if there is a great worry on his shoulders
Plants
Clearly discouraged with the situation and considering the effects directly on himself as well as the entire nation
Hair beginning to grey as most presidents do, showing the pressures of the job
Window or door giving a view outside
Contemplating Actions to resolve the situation

The inference made from this image is that President Obama seems to be in a great deal of doubt or dispair everything about it from the setting to the presidents body language seemd to be grim, it makes it easier for us as a society to have doubts in the presidents abilities as a whole.

The question that comes to mind from viewing this image is " Can he do it, can he handle a crisis of this magnitude?" due to the overall view of the picture it seems that even he is doubting his abilities and decisions, or "is he simply worried about how this will reflect him in his role as president?"

Which picture gives you more confidence in the president's leadership abilities? Why?
The first picture of President Obama gives me more confidence in his presidential leadership skills and abilities because the overall scene of the picture as well as the caption gives the idea that he is on the right track to solving and dealing with the crisis that would affect our nation as a whole and could potentially cause grave danger to those especially on the coast and interfere with all waterways. He seems to have a great deal of integrity and hope that he will solve the issue and seems to view it very positively where as in the second picture he looks very disturbed and worried with the issue at hand as well as how it will reflect him personally as well as how it will impact the nation.

What I have infered from this image is that President Obama seems to have everything together and seems to be formulating a plan to deal with the crisis on his hands. He comes off as calm cool and collected, and seems to show through his body language and demeanor that he is very confident in his abilities to handle such a situation.

This image really only raises  the question of "what will he do?" from viewing his body language and the overall demeanor htat can be percieved from the image it puts a great deal of faith in him and his leadership abilities.

What's your learning style?

Using the VARK questionaire I discovered that like most of the population I am a multimodal learner but my score reflected that my two greatest areas of learning are aural ( to hear) and Kinesthetic (to do)  so basically to listen to a lecture and participate in discussions as well as doing hands on activities will be most beneficial to my learning style. I always knew that I learned best by doing but I never realized how much listening affected my learning abilities until I took this test. I feel this test is very accurate and it made me realize that not everyone is aware of their learning style. This made me dsicover that in the classroom it is very important to use a large variety of different techniques in everything you do in order to reach every students as much as you possibly can.
